Research

Bacteriophages are a diverse family of viruses that exclusively infect bacteria. Their narrow host specificity and ability to evolve make them ideal for the targeting and treatment of bacterial human pathogens.

The Wichman, Miller, Bull lab at the University of Idaho is investigating specific phage/host/environment dynamics that could improve the efficacy of bacteriophages in the treatment of patients, or phage therapy.

My work focuses on environmental conditions within patients' bodies that may affect phage fitness such as prior use of antibiotics and low iron availability. I am investigating if phages can be evolved to better cope with these adverse conditions, or if certain phages preform better in these environments.
